The Stupidity Of My Generation

It's a shame really, that many of the people my age are so blind when it comes to philosophy and politics. They don't know what drives them, they have no sense of self. They beleive in only whats shown to them and follow when led. This is not the way in which life should be lived. This is nothing but an easy path and will attribute to a lack of self reliance.

I wholeheartidly beleive my generation has become lax in the essence that they have never had anything to fight for. Some may view it differently with the war on terror and our presence in Iraw & Afghanistan. But there has been no major global conflict, on the scale of WWII in which my generation has been directly effected. We've had it relatively easy when it comes to life.

When I graduated high school in 2003 in New York, we had several state exams which we had to pass in order to graduate. They accounted for 1/5 of our grade, and if we failed the test, we didn't fail the class, but we could not receive our diploma. One of the tests which had gone under much scrutiny was our science examination. It was the second year this test was being given under it's new revisions and was viewed as being a very difficult test, which it was. There was some material we never covered in our class by the time we had taken the test. I had approached my teacher on this issue afterwards and she said because that topic took up such a small portion of the test, and that these tests are not given out in advance for teachers to see so they know what material will be on them, she didn't get into that subject because it wouldn't really effect our overall score on the test, except for perhaps 4-5%.

It turns out after the test scores were released.... nearly 1/3 of all the test takers FAILED the test. A failing score was deemed to be below 65%... because so many students failed the test.... the state decided it would be best to lower that years passing grade to a 50%.

What does that teach my generation? I'll tell you... it teaches them that even if they do poorly, they will succeed. That they don't need to do their best to get ahead in life.

A Reason For An Obama Victory

This is but one of what I feel, will be the major contributing factors to Obama becoming our next president. It's not the uninformed masses that will be voting this year (unfortunately they are from my generation). It's not Obama's way of manipulating his followers with his charismatic speaches (I will give Obama that... he is very charismatic). It is however, the fact that our own Supreme Court has ruled that the Ohio Secretary of State does NOT need to cross reference the supposed 200,000 voters who registered this year, that she herself had said were suspicious.

With the likes of ACORN who are, I beleive, actively trying to manipulate the outcome of the election, this is horrendous. How can we, as citizens, allow the likes of our neighbors cat to cast a ballot this fall? Or our beloved Micky Mouse... These are just the ballots that were caught by election officials and are known to be inaccurate. How many thousands of others, have NOT been caught that will be counted? With the past two election years being decided within just a few thousand votes, this could mean a significant shift in our future politics. With Democrats controlling both the house, senate and soon the white house, expect to see socialist agenda's being pushed through with ease. This will not only bring about another "New Deal" type era, but one in which the people rely upon the government.

It's unfortunate that this years election will be determined by those who shouldn't even be voting in the first place, and our supreme court has decided to allow this issue to continue by removing the injunction against the Ohio secretary of state. She blames her predecessor for the mess she is in now, although the blame lays entirely with her. It's a shame really.

Lobbyists Are Not the Problem

I continue to hear from both sides of the aisle that lobbyists have too much power and that they hold sway over many elected officials. I hear that these elected officials go out of their way to help and that they're "in the pockets" of these lobbyists. What I have not heard from anyone, is that lobbyists are not the problem, it's our elected officials.

Why is it that it seems no elected official has the moral constitution, to not be swayed by someone else? What happened to voting on issues because of how YOU feel about them. How YOU beleive your vote could change America? Lobbyists are not the problem with current politics. They serve a purpose as well. They work for their respective business to discuss issues with elected officials to either propose or push through legislation that benefits their company. Now if the elected official AGREES with the legislation. What is the problem there? If he actually supports it, why is he labeled as being "in the pocket" of the lobbyists and big business?

It is those few people, who have voted on the issues for campaign dollars, or "special favors" that are to blame. Those elected officials, who didn't have the moral strength to say "no" when they should have. These people are the owns that have given lobbyists a bad name. The sins of a few are now expected of the many it would see.

Semi Scared of Palin

I must confess, last Thursday's debate between Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden did scare me. But surprisingly not in the usual way. Normally the socialist agenda put forth by many of today's liberals not only is appalling to me, but is frightening. I look at countries where these socialist agenda's have been adopted, England, Australia, Canada.... and I just can't help but worry for the future of America. Will we head down a similiar path as these other countries? Or will we overcome the fad of socialism? However, something else caught my attention and I have heard very little of this on any news networks.

Gov. Palin on Thursday night stated something very similiar to what Dick Cheney had said about the role of the vice president. In essence to me, it seemed as if she also thought the VP is outside of the executive branch of the government and more apart of the legislative. I must strongly insist that this is very inaccurate. The founders of our constitution, who adopted idea's of great thinkers like John Locke, added in a system of checks and balances so that one branch of the government could not become more powerful over another. The legislative branch proposes & adopts laws. The judicial branch interprets and determines whether or not laws violate the constitution. But lately, it seems as if the executive branch has been not only taking on their role of enforcing laws, but in so doing, trying to interpret them.

The system of checks and balances that we have is a great one. It helps stabalize our government and also keeps a political party from gaining too much "sway" within politics. i.e., President may be Democrat, both houses of congress my be Democrat, but the supreme court justices may have been appointed by a republican president, in which case they will generally be more "constitutionalists" and will have different idea's as to how laws may react or directly go against the constitution. This situation could be changed into a multitude of different scenarios, but the end result is the same. Very rarely, if every, will a political affiliation hold sway over the entire government. Which brings me back to my point of why Gov. Palin scared me.

The fact that she had tried to insinuate that the VP was closer to the legislative branch of the government, and not exactly apart of the executive branch goes directly against what the checks and balances system was created for, seperation of powers. By falling into this question, and I'm surprised democrats have not made a big deal about it yet, she gave a situation that can be used against McCain and Palin to corralate a relationship between them and Bush/Cheney. It's obvious to everyone Bush is not a very popular president, and the more a relationship or even similarities can be shown between the two, the more the people of the US will shy away from McCain/Palin.

The real question I need to be asking isn't whether im scared of Palin trying to merge the VP with the legislative branch, but rather am I more scared of how statements like that could sway voters to Obama/Biden.
